WBO STANDARD OF PERFECTION FOR COLOUR BUDGERIGARS 1. COLOUR: 25 points To be as described in the Colour Standards. Emphasis should be placed on a pure uniform colour throughout the entire body. 2. VARIETY MARKINGS: 15 points On cheeks, back of head, neck, wings and tail to be as described in the Colour Standards. 3. MASK AND SPOTS: 10 points The mask must be clear and, where demanded by the standard, comprise of six regularly spaced small round spots, the outer two being partially covered by the cheek patches. 4. CONDITION: 20 points Condition is essential. Perfect show condition can be described as a bird that is complete in feather. The feather should show the bloom of good health and good preparation. Any bird not in perfect show condition should be penalised. WINGS The wings must contain seven visual primary flight feathers fully grown and carried just above the cushion of the tail and not crossed. TAIL Two primary tail feathers in a tight straight line with the body. 5. SIZE & LENGTH 20 points The ideal length is 17 to 18 centimetres from crown of head to the tip of the tail. Sizes below must be penalised. Sizes above must be severely penalised. 6. POSITION & SHAPE 10 points The position to be at an angle of 45 degrees to the perch. The bird to be active and natural. Body well-proportioned and solid to give an elegant slender shape. The chest should blend smoothly without being prominent to the line of the abdomen which should not appear sunken. NECK The neck must be thin and break the line between the head and the body creating a hollow effect. BEAK AND CERE To be small and slightly protruding from face. The upper mandible to completely cover the lower mandible. EYES To be bold and bright and positioned towards the front of the head and not covered by feathers. LEGS AND FEET Legs to be straight and strong. Feet to have two front toes and two rear toes with claws firmly gripping the perch. GUIDELINES FOR JUDGES - DEFECTS TO BE PENALISED CONDITION: Incomplete feathers/plumage (bird moulting, skin complaints, scabs etc.) Soiled plumage. Ruffled plumage. Bleeding wounds. Any deformity. Any Barhead. COLOUR: Uneven distribution of colour on body. Patchiness and/or dilution of body colour below the level of that described in the Colour Standards. Suffusion of another colour other than that described in the Colour Standards. MARKINGS: Flecking of head Opalescence on the back and neck of normal varieties. Traces of melanin on the back V of opalines. POSITION & SHAPE: Excessive fatness. Pronounced sternum (excessive thinness). Excessive nervousness. LENGTH: Sizes below and especially above the ideal length of 17-18 centimetres. WINGS: The absence of flight feathers. Wings dropping below the cushion of the tail. Wrong coloured flight feathers. TAIL: The absence of one or both tail feathers. Dropping tail. Wrong coloured tail feathers. BEAK AND CERE The presence of scaly face should be disqualified. An undershot beak. Miscoloured cere. EYES The presence of scaly face. Odd eyes. MASK AND SPOTS The absence of spots from the mask where they are required. The absence or wrong colour of cheek patches. Large spots. LEGS AND FEET Any deformity. The presence of scaly leg. The absence of claws. Excessive length of claws. Wrong colour of legs and claws. DEFECTS IN SPECIFIC VARIETIES Traces of brown on the body of Lutino and Albino birds. Traces of green and blue in body colour of Lutino and Albino birds. Dilution of body colour, pale colour cheek patches, presence of blue or grey colour in tail feathers and any markings on wings in Yellow-wings & Whitewings. Completely black feathers on wings, incomplete or absent throat spots in Spangles. The lack of symmetry in shapes of markings on Dominant Pieds. Spillage of yellow colour from mask into the body colour in Yellowface. Uneven/different shade of colour in flight & tail feathers. © WBO 2015 |
